Whole hemp seeds are the seed with the shell still on. You will also see them called unhulled hemp seeds, unshelled hemp seeds, or hemp grain. Ours are USA grown, raw, viable, non-GMO, and grown without herbicides or pesticides. They come in 15 lb and 45 lb bags, with volume pricing by the bag and pallet quotes by request.
Most of our whole seed buyers are pressing oil, mixing bird and poultry feed, sprouting, or dehulling in house to make their own hemp hearts. If you want seed to eat as-is, see the hulled hemp seeds (hemp hearts) instead.
Hulled vs Unhulled Hemp Seeds (Hemp Hearts vs Hemp Seeds)
The question we hear most is hemp seeds versus hemp hearts: which one should I buy? Same plant, same seed. The only difference is whether the shell has been removed, and that changes texture, nutrition per pound, shelf life, and price.

Whole seed figures are from the label analysis on our 15 lb animal grain. Hemp heart figures are per 100 g from USDA FoodData Central, “Seeds, hemp seed, hulled” (31.6 g protein, 48.8 g fat, 4 g fiber).
Short version: pick whole seeds for pressing, feed, sprouting, and the lowest cost per pound. Pick hemp hearts when the seed is going straight into food.
Prices and volume tiers above are live from our store. Tier pricing applies automatically in the cart when you add the qualifying number of bags. Uses for Whole Hemp Seeds
Cold-pressed hemp seed oil. Whole seed is what oil presses are built for. The shell helps the press pull a clean, dark green oil, and the leftover cake can be milled into protein.
Livestock and pet treats. Horses, goats, and rabbits take them as a mix-in. Start small and increase over a week.
Sprouting and microgreens. The seed is raw and viable. Germination varies with your water, method, and environment, so sprout at your own risk. Steps are in how to sprout hemp seeds.
Dehulling into hemp hearts. Food makers with a dehuller buy whole seed to control their own hearts, fines, and hull streams.
Baking, granola, and toppings. Toasted whole seeds add crunch to bread, crackers, and trail mix.
Are unhulled and unshelled hemp seeds the same thing?
Yes. Unhulled, unshelled, whole hemp seeds, and hemp grain all mean the seed with its shell on. Hulled, shelled, hemp hearts, and hemp nuts all mean the shell has been removed.
Can you eat hemp seeds with the shell on?
Yes. The shell is edible and mostly fiber. It is crunchy and a little gritty, so most people toast or grind whole seeds, or buy hemp hearts for eating as-is.
Will whole hemp seeds sprout?
They can. Our grain is raw and viable, and we check germination rates periodically. We do not irradiate with the carrier. Results depend on your water, method, and environment, so we cannot guarantee a germination rate for sprouting.
Are these planting seeds?
No. This is hemp grain for food, feed, and processing. For AOSCA certified field seed, see planting hemp seeds.
Do your hemp seeds contain CBD or THC?
We do not sell CBD, THC, or any strains. These are industrial hemp grain varieties grown for seed. The seed itself is not a source of cannabinoids.
How should I store whole hemp seeds?
Sealed, cool, dark, and dry. The shell protects the oils, so whole seed keeps longer than hemp hearts, but heat and light will still shorten shelf life.
Is a COA available?
Yes. A certificate of analysis is available on request for any of our seed, oil, and food products. Ask when you order or send us a message.
