The hemp fabric for the days it’s too hot for hemp
Heavier hemp cloth earns its reputation honestly. It wears forever and it looks beautiful. It is also the last thing anyone wants against their skin in August.
This is the answer to that. Hemp and lyocell spun fine and woven into a plain weave at 3.8 oz per square yard, light enough that air moves through it and soft enough that your customer forgets what it’s made of.
The 1% spandex is there for comfort, giving the cloth a little ease through the body without turning it into activewear.
Natural color, undyed, 50 inches wide, ready for whatever you have in mind.
Uses: What to make with it
Apparel: Summer shirts and blouses, easy dresses, wide-leg pants, scarves, and bridal underlayers. At 3.8 oz it is on the sheer side, so plan on lining or layering for anything fitted.
Home: Sheer curtains and panels that filter light beautifully, lampshades, table linens, and wall hangings.
Craft and studio: Reusable gift wrap, painting and photography backdrops, quilt backing, and dyeing or block-printing projects. The natural undyed color takes color evenly.
Reusable packaging: Drawstring bags, produce sacks, and product wraps for brands that want an alternative to poly. Note that the 1% spandex content means this fabric is not compostable, so avoid biodegradable claims on finished goods.
Sampling: Fast, affordable mockups and fit prototypes before you commit to heavier yardage.
How to Care for this Hemp Tencel Spandex Fabric
Wash cold or warm on a gentle cycle.
Dry on the line for best results, or tumble low.
Iron on the lowest setting only, or skip it. Heat damages the spandex and it does not come back.
Skip the chlorine bleach and the hot water.
Prewash your yardage before cutting. Hemp and lyocell both relax on the first wash, and you would rather that happen on the roll than on a finished garment.
